RRR review
7.8 / 10 — CineScope score
Overview
Two revolutionaries become friends before they know they are on opposite sides, in a pre-independence epic that treats physics as a suggestion.
The short verdict
Three hours of pure maximalist cinema — Ridiculous, Riveting and, above all, Ridiculously fun.
Story
The bromance is the engine and the politics are the fuel. The film takes its friendship seriously enough that the betrayals genuinely hurt.
Direction
Rajamouli directs set pieces with no sense of shame and total command of scale: a man throwing a motorcycle, a prison break scored as a dance number.
Performance
N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan share the charisma load equally, which is rare in this kind of star vehicle.
Cinematography
K. K. Senthil Kumar keeps the colour saturated and the camera in constant, joyful motion.
Music
M. M. Keeravani's 'Naatu Naatu' became a global phenomenon for a reason — it is the film's thesis in three minutes.
Pros and cons
What works
- Unmatched spectacle
- Genuinely charismatic leads
- A crowd-pleasing energy that never flags
What does not
- 187 minutes is a lot of film
- Historical politics are simplified
Final verdict
Watch it with a crowd on the biggest screen you can find. Subtitles do not get in the way of the fun.
